Artist Statement
My marks–words, lines, color–usually appear from an immediacy of thought and feeling, and at times include cryptic imagery or memory. Music is often part of the creative process – from requiems to rap. The ‘child’ is often the one making the first marks.
I use graphite, acrylic, oils, chalks, papier-mache, fabric and paper collage. Organic materials: weeds, seeds, sand, petals, sticks; and occasionally plastic grapes–on paper, canvas or board. The adult arrives in time to know when to add, subtract or stop.
From time to time, faces or silhouettes appear of people I meet, know, love: sometimes owning the image, sometimes included in shadow or fragments.
